Madison Heights, Michigan, is just about 12 miles north of downtown Detroit. Since becoming an official city in 1955, it has grown from its agricultural roots into a suburban community.


The city has many parks, recreational facilities, and over 100 dining options, giving residents plenty of choices.


Getting around is a breeze, too! With major highways like I-75 and I-696 nearby, residents have easy access to the greater Detroit area, making it a convenient place to live.


As of the 2020 census, about 28,468 people call Madison Heights home. This city strikes a perfect balance between suburban comfort and urban accessibility!

The city maintains 12 parks, each providing unique amenities:

  • Civic Center Park: Spanning 33 acres, this park features picnic pavilions, a basketball court, a one-mile walking track, sledding hills, playgrounds, a sand volleyball court, and a softball field. 
  • Rosie's Park: Covering 30.9 acres, Rosie's Park includes a dirt BMX course with a half-pipe, a jogging/walking trail, lighted ball fields, a basketball court, an ice rink (weather dependent), a 9-hole disc golf course, and multiple play structures. 
  • Red Oaks Nature Center and Suarez Friendship Woods: This 37-acre area offers a 1.3-mile paved trail suitable for hiking, biking, and walking. It also has a nature center that hosts educational programs and houses native live animals.

Additionally, the city collaborates with Red Oaks County Parks to manage facilities like the Red Oaks Youth Soccer Complex, enhancing the recreational options available to the community.

  • Red Oaks Waterpark: is a favorite destination for summer fun. This attraction features a wave pool, triple-flume waterslides, a relaxing lazy river, and SplashTown, a splash pad with 52 water play elements perfect for kids. Amenities include the Blue Water Grill for refreshments, locker rentals, and complimentary life jackets for safety. Open seasonally from June through Labor Day, the park offers discounted admission for Oakland County residents and employs certified lifeguards for guest safety. Red Oaks Waterpark is the place to be for a refreshing getaway filled with aquatic excitement!


  • Annual Tree Lighting: Scheduled for late November, this festive event marks the beginning of the holiday season with the illumination of the city's Christmas tree, accompanied by Santa Claus, the local fire department, and other festivities.


These events and various recreational programs offered throughout the year contribute to the city's community and provide residents with opportunities for engagement.

Red Oaks Dog Park

Open Sunrise to Sunset. All Year Round. During the fall and winter months, the park features limited

Red Oaks Dog Park, a dedicated off-leash area for dogs and their owners.

  • Location: 31353 Dequindre Road, Madison Heights, MI 48071 
  • Size: 5.2 acres
  • Features:
    • Separate areas for small and large dogs
    • Shelter for owners
    • Canine drink-filling stations
    • Paved parking lot
    • Limited street lighting for extended hours during fall and winter 

Requirements:

  • All dogs must have up-to-date vaccinations, including Rabies, Distemper, and Bordetella.
  • Dogs should respond to voice commands.
  • Dog runs are rotated throughout the year to allow for turf restoration and maintenance; open runs are posted at the park. 

Red Oaks Dog Park provides a safe and enjoyable environment for dogs to exercise and socialize, contributing to the community's commitment to pet-friendly amenities.
